Increased purse for 2016 Sunoco North/South 100 |
Florence Speedway is excited to announce that the 2016 Sunoco North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil will be receiving a purse increase that will make it one of the highest paying races in the sport. After increasing the purse to pay $50,000 to win in 2003, the race has seen tremendous growth over the last decade. In 2014, with a change to the popular passing points format, the race received an increase of over $12,000 in the form of a non-qualifiers race for those not fortunate enough to make the 100 lap feature. And after seeing growth in attandance in 2015 due to the new format and the exciting racing it produces, we are increasing the purse again. On August 11-13, 2016, the North/South 100 will again, pay $50,000 to win, but the race will now pay $3,000 to start! This is the highest paying start money of any race in the sport, and is sure to draw the attention of all of the top drivers. Tickets for the event will go on sale to the public in January. Details on that and the complete purse structure of the event will be available at a later date. |
New Format for Fall 50 weekend |
Florence Speedway management has announced a new format for this year’s Fall 50 weekend. Saturday’s format will remain unchanged with the Late Models racing for a $5,000 top prize, and the American Modified Series hosting their season championship race with a $5,000 to win race as well. But where the changes occur will be on Friday night as the Late Models and Time Auto Sales Modifieds will be in action. The Late Models will be competing in a $2,000 to win event, and the Time Auto Sales Modifieds will be racing in a $1,000 to win feature. For more details, check out the schedule page at florencespeedway.com. |

Transponders now mandatory |
Florence Speedway has recently installed a transponder scoring system at the track. Transponders are devices attached to the cars that allow for electronic scoring of the races. This allows for quicker turnarounds in cautions and more accurate scoring of the races. Transponders are already in use at many tracks and by many series across the country and are becoming the standard method of scoring in auto racing. We have transponders available for rent or for sale at the track at our new registration building. Transponders are now mandatory in all divisions. |

Sunoco Race Fuels Heat Race Challenge
|
We at Florence Speedway are excited to announce that the Sunoco Race Fuels Heat Race challenge is returning for the 2015 season. We and Sunoco Race Fuels have teamed up for a program to reward drivers who race here weekly. The Sunoco Race Fuels Heat Race Challenge will reward drivers who run well in their heat races and run Sunoco Race Fuel products. The twist to this program is that where, in most cases, drivers in different divisions can’t compete against each other, in the Sunoco Race Fuels Heat Race Challenge, the eligible drivers will be competing against each other! That’s right, the Late Models, Time Auto Sales Modifieds, Crates and Pure Stocks are all competing for the same prize. At the end of the season, the top point earner will gain a $500 prize from Sunoco, and everyone in the top 10 will receive cash awards. For more details check out the program info page on our website. We would also like to let everyone know that, due to many requests, we will be switching to selling Sunoco Supreme 112 octane gasoline at the track on a weekly basis. We will no longer be carrying the 110 octane standard fuel. In addition to gasoline, we will also continue to sell Methanol at the track. We will also be carrying Sunoco’s HCR + 114 octane fuel. For the crate division, we will be carrying the Sunoco 260 GT Plus 104 Octane Unleaded Fuel. This is a race ready fuel that is geared towards the needs of crate engines. We also have access to drums of each of the above and all of Sunoco’s fuels. If anyone is interested in purchasing a drum, just ask at our fuel sales area. Purchase of any of the above qualifies you for the Sunoco Heat Race challenge bonuses. |
