Florence Speedway officials would like to assure race fans and drivers that everything is still on as planned for Saturday’s Lucas Oil Late Model Series sanctioned 31st Annual Ralph Latham Memorial. We are monitoring the weather situation closely and the latest models are giving us confidence that we can complete the scheduled event on Saturday. While the forecasted cool temperatures are not ideal for putting on an event like this, we have decided that we will not make any cancellation for this event based on temperatures. Rains are scheduled to hit the speedway grounds off and on Thursday and Friday, but it currently appears that it all should be clear of the track by noon on Saturday. If that is what occurs, we will race Saturday. The forecasted rains are mainly lighter in nature with the heaviest rainfalls appearing to fall before Friday morning. This will leave parking lots soggy, but the track itself should be fine. Fortunately, in a scenario like this, the topography of the speedway helps as most of the rain will just run off. To summarize, our plan is to put the race on as scheduled on Saturday. We will keep an eye on the ending time of the rain as we approach the event and anticipate making the final decision by noon Saturday. If there is any change in plans due to the rains lingering in the area longer than currently forecasted, we would update our website, Facebook, and Twitter pages as soon as they occurred.
