We, here at Florence Speedway, take great pride in the country that we live and appreciate those who make sacrifices to give us our freedoms. In order to say thank you, we are proud to announce we will be having a Grand Marshal this year for the Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil, and that will be Kentucky’s Brian Wilson.
Brian Wilson was born August 7, 1974 in Carrollton, Kentucky. He is the son of Ken Wilson, a 20 year Marine Corps veteran, and Grandson of Glenn Garriott, a World War II Army veteran. Brian enlisted in the United States Army on September 1, 1993, serving as a military intelligence analyst for 10 years. In 2003 he exited active duty and joined the National Guard, changing jobs to be a Combat Medic and EMT here in Kentucky. In 2006-2007, he was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq with the 1st of the 149th Infantry Battalion (out of Barbourville, KY). While in Iraq, he was presented the Bronze Star Medal for his actions as a “sniper platoon” medic, rendering tactical combat casualty care while under fire, and for the medical treatment of dozens of local Iraqi women and children. Upon returning from Iraq, he was made active duty in the National Guard where he completed his service. On February 1st, 2016 he retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class, with 23 years of dedicated service.
