Florence Speedway officials would like to update our fans and drivers on some things going on this offseason.
First, is that the dates of the 2023 Ralph Latham Memorial and Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 have been announced. The 37th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial will, once again, pay $15,000 to win and will be held on Saturday May 6th. The 41st Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil will be August 10th-12th and will remain one of the highest paying races in the sport, paying $75,000 to win. The rest of the schedule is being worked on, and should come out in later January.
We are currently working on getting ticket renewals for those events ready to be sent out. We are transitioning to a new ticketing system for 2023, so there have been some delays in getting everything transferred over. The new ticketing system will allow us to do scan tickets for online sales for our events. This should allow for a smoother entrance at the gates and greatly reduce Will Call lines. At this point, we are anticipating renewals beginning in early January. Once ready, we will send renewal letters and emails to the addresses we have on file.
New for 2023, we will be adding a division to our weekly races, as the Crown Vics will become a regular division at the speedway and will compete for points and a track championship. Rules are similar to the rules we ran this season and have been posted on our website.
Rules are similar to the rules we ran this season and have been posted on our website. Also posted are rules updates for our other divisions. Some division’s rules are incomplete as we have to wait for some national series to complete their rules.
Finally, we wanted to fill everyone in on a couple facility upgrades going on this Winter.
First, the Pit bathrooms are getting a long overdue overhaul to modernize them with full stalls and upgraded toilets and urinals. Construction has already begun with the rooms being completely gutted to prepare for new plumbing. This project should be completed by the beginning of race season.
Second, we are beginning the process of upgrading our front stretch grandstands to improve traffic flow, and replace the wooden boards with aluminum. This is a long term project, and while a lot will be completed in the offseason, this project will likely be worked on throughout the season.
